JACOBO CASTELLANOJan 14, 2007 / Mar 31, 2007
Pódium Fúcares Gallery presents in Almagro the second individual exhibition by the artist Jacobo Castellano (Jaén, 1976), opening on January 14th. Under the title of Podium, a group of sculptural works and four photographs are presented -a new reflection on recurrent topics in his work. Despite some differences, "disease" reappears, trying to walk on the fine line separating pleasure from pain. However, these works have been deprived of any hint of irony -a feature that could be appreciated in his initial drawings of electric chairs. The game appears in a less evident manner, giving way to more sordid works. Jacobo Castellano uses materials and objects rescued from his nearest environs, such as recipes or the medical treatment of some relative, along with the drawings and photographs inlayed on precarious wood constructions similar to pedestals or impossibly accessible pulpits. The stability of the constructions is very precarious: everything looks on the verge of collapsing. These sculptures are made up of elements juxtaposed as in a collage, forced to coexist and relate, generating mutual strains and conflicts. |
